Carnival in Trinidad & Tobago is one of the most colorful experiences I’ve ever had, both in terms of the costumes and the spirit of the people.

Machu Picchu is one of those places, I’ve realized, that many people aren’t sure how to get to. Before I went, I had no idea either as all I’d ever heard about was people hiking and sleeping at camps for days just to get there. Though that’s exactly what gets some people excited, it was exactly what made me think I might never go to Machu Picchu.
If you’re wondering where to go to escape this year (or over the next four years for my fellow U.S. residents), pick a happy place.
Food is easily my second greatest love after travel. Which means when I travel, I think eating everything is part of the whole joyous experience. And it is. All I knew about El Salvador before I went was pupusas which, shame on me. And shame on you too if you’re nodding in agreement that that’s all you know about it. The country is warm in more ways than one, it’s tropical, it’s laid back and some people and companies there are doing some really creative, innovative things, like my new favorite jeweler Lula Mena.
There’s a problem in America where America thinks it’s OK to only know English, because everyone else all over the world should just figure out how to talk to you. And for those of us who don’t have parents who speak a different mother tongue or didn’t seek to learn a second or third language, we have to do better than that when we travel.
