Ah, Paris. The city of light, love, butter croissants. It’s beautiful, it’s old in the best way possible, it’s distinctly French, it’s inspiring, it’s smoky, it’s creative, it’s feisty—it’s wonderful if you can find the right things to do and places to go and love.
OK, let’s get this out of the way first: I am fully a proponent of travel being about culture and experience and cuisine and life and learning how other people live. But I’m also a proponent of seeking and sharing the beauty of a place. On Instagram in particular.
From the icing-capped colored homes, to the beaches boasting a shade of blue that exists there alone, to sunsets that color the sky in hues so striking you’d question whether they were real—once Bermuda beckons, you may spend the rest of your days answering its call.
If you’ve ever set foot in a Caribbean carnival, then you’ve experienced the truest form of the region’s spirit and soul. But if you’ve never set foot in Grenada for Spicemas, then you’ve never experienced Jab Jab, the most elemental form of Carnival bacchanalia that ever was.
When you ask a foreigner—or TripAdvisor—what’s the best beach in Grenada, most signs will probably point to Grand Anse. But there are so many other beaches that prove less popular is just what we want sometimes.
Since Instagram is my favorite idle hobby, I’ve practiced and explored and tried to figure out all the best ways to take better Instagram photos. There’s always more to learn, but I’ve figured at least a few things out.
The same islands tend to make best lists over and over again. But this world’s got a lot of island beauty that no one ever talks about.
There are so many places in the world that we’ve either never heard of, never heard said out loud or have just spent our entire lives thinking the way we say it is the way to say it.
The thing about travel is it’s meant to free you. Make you feel liberated, alive, inspired. It’s meant to be new, an experience that’s different from what you normally experience. So…if you do the same things you always do when you travel, you may be cheating yourself out of everything that adventure could be.
Everybody thinks they’ve got a tip when it comes to scoring the best deals on trips: book flights on a Tuesday, clear your cache so “they” don’t know you really want the flight, book hotel and airfare together, book four months in advance—no four days in advance. Ugh. The mixed signals are enough to set anyone crazy and make them just book what they see when they see it, deal or no deal.
